Cambridge ELLIS Unit Summer School on Probabilistic Machine Learning 2024

Learning about advanced machine learning concepts

From 14 to 18 July, two members of the Centre: Rim Rubavicius (research associate) and Ivalin Chobanov (PhD student), participated in the summer school on probabilistic machine learning, hosted in Cambridge Pembroke College and facilitated by the members of the Cambridge ELLIS Unit. The series of lectures provided by the organisers provided a well-rounded overview of foundational and advanced concepts in Bayesian machine learning (e.g., Gaussian processes, Bayesian experimental design, post-Bayesian statistics, and mixture models), including dedicated days for generative modelling and causality. The final day of the summer school was a showcase of AI for Science Research, highlighting a spectrum of research conducted at Cambridge University built on AI.

Making Connections and Sharing Insights

The school provided a valuable opportunity to network and make connections with more than 100 researchers from Europe and beyond working in foundational machine learning research and its applications, including robotics and healthcare. As part of the summer school, a poster session enabled participants to share their research and receive feedback and insights from their peers. In this session, Rim Rubavicius presented his recent work on lifelong robot learning.
